We are now in Albany after spending a few days in Denmark. At Denmark we set up camp at a caravan park right on Wilson Inlet. It turned out to be very windy as the wind was blowing in straight off the water and bringing with it the smell of rotten seaweed. The wind eases off at night but is back with a vengeance in the morning.
We had a very quiet Melbourne Cup Day with Terry and Sue. We watched the race on televsion and then went over to the camp kitchen and had our Melbourne Cup Luncheon, a BBQ. Sue and I did put our fascinators on with our ordinary clothes. But we had a good afternoon. The Cup was on here at 12noon as we are 3 hours behind NSW. The Western Australians don't seem to worry about the race too much.

Terry and Sue left for Albany on Wednesday and Ray and I went for a drive around the Denmark area.
We drove out to Ocean Beach where the Wilson Inlet runs into the sea. We drove out to a couple of lookouts. We also visited a chocolate place and also the Denmark Cheese Factory where we sampled and bought some lovely cheese.

On the Thursday we moved to Albany and it has rained ever since. We have had rain, wind, thunder, lightening and hail. Besides the weather Albany is a lovely place. It used to be a big whaling centre but the last whale was caught in 1978. It has a beautiful safe harbour called Princess Royal Harbour. During the First World war, all of the troops leaving Australia and New Zealand for Gallipolli gathered on ships in King George Sound at Albany to sail together in convoy to Gallipolli. Apparently in 2014 and 2015 the government has given Albany money to help celebrate the centenary of Gallipolli.

They have a memorial on top of the hill overlooking the harbour. It is built on the site of the old Princess Royal Fortress which was built to defend the harbour. It was felt that if Australia ever lost this strategic port to any enemy it would be a major threat to the security of Australia. So the fortress was set up in 1893.
In the afternoon we drove out to the east of Albany to have a look at Two Peoples Bay and Little Beach. It is a very pretty area with lots of crystal clear water and beautiful white sand beaches. You just have to pray for some sunny weather to enjoy it. The locals say if you wait 5 minutes the weather will change.

We drove into town and had alook around the harbour area. There is a memorial down near the water dedicated to the nurses who have served in war. It is surrounded by beautiful rose gardens.
We have booked in to stay in Albany until at least Saturday as we are waiting for a parcel to be delivered and the WA wait awhile mail is a bit slow. We are still having bad weather and in one day we got rain, wind, thunder, lightening and hail. I will do mre blogging in a couple of days.
